Breakthrough moments in product design

When was the last time you had a “breakthrough moment” – you know, one of those moments when you’ve been wrestling with a hard problem for awhile, and then FINALLY solve it in a simple and elegant way? I had one yesterday with Ann, a client in our VIP Coaching program.  And I literally jumped for joy when it happened.

We’ve been working hard to identify and design the Core Loop in her MVP (minimum viable product) – and we were pouring over the Habit Stories that her team had distilled from their customer discovery research. We cross-correlated those key customer insights with our product goals – and filtered them through the project’s technical constraints. To give you a sense of what we’re working on, here’s a brief excerpt about Core Loops from our Game Thinking framework  that’s powering Ann’s work.

And then… after some intense, hard-core, head-scratching analysis… a new, simple Habit Story emerged – one that captured the CORE cutomer experience and emotional payoff at the heart of the product.

We wrote it down, We looked at it. And we all felt it – the breakthrough that had just taken us from swirling chaos to dead-simple clarity.

Ann exclaimed, “I’m SO happy… everything is clear… I know exactly what to do… I’m on the verge of tears.”

BOOM. That’s why I do what I do. I LOVE helping brilliant entrepreneurs have breakthrough moments where they pull clarity from chaos and charge forward with confidence. I LOVE empowering them with the tools and training to cut through the clutter, and get the feedback they need from EXACTLY the right customers. I LOVE seeing my clients save months of time and thousands of dollars by building the right MVP – with the right goals and audience.
